Malvo crashes his car in a small town outside Minnesota, an almost naked man gets out from the opened trunk and makes a run into the forest. Lester Nygaard runs into his old bully, Sam Hess whose nose he accidentally breaks. At the hospital Nygaard meets Malvo, who was just a little injured from the crash.
Mr. Wrench and Mr. Numbers arrive in Bemidji in order to find Hess’ killer. They are directed to a strip club by Hess’ attorney, a man with Malvo’s description has been seen there. Mr. Numbers and Mr. Wrench make a big mistake by abducting the wrong person, they drop him in the ice fishing hole.
Deputy Solverson learns that the abducted man has been taken from his workplace, he believes the reason is gambling debts. An image taken by the security camera reveals slightly the kidnappers face. Nygaard calls Sam’s widow, Gina Hess because of Sam’s life insurance policy, Mr. Numbers and Mr. Wrench are outside Hess’ house.
The Milos family car is left stranded along a deserted highway in winter due to lack of gas. Stavros Milos steps out of the car to find satchel filled with money buried in the snow. Nineteen years later, Chump disguised as a plumber inspects Milos’ plumbing system, he tells him that everything appears to be normal, he also mentions that blood flowing out sound similar to a biblical plague.
In jail, Mr. Wrench and Mr. Plumbers finds out Malvo’s name from Nygaard by using force. They get released but Nygaard is taken to the hospital because of a severe infection. A stray of shotgun pellet struck his hand, Nygaard had been concealing the wound, it proves he was in the room when Thurman was killed.
Chumph calls Milos, he is ready to make the ransom drop. Malvo then duct tapes Chump to an exercise bench, he also tapes an unloaded shotgun to Chumph’s hands, he then starts firing randomly with the rifle. The police storms the house after Malvo has left.
Officer Grimly accidentally injures Deputy Solverson. After Nygaard placed the unloaded gun in Gordo’s backpack, it gets discovered in the school, subsequently the police searches Nygaard’s house.
Chaz Nygaard gets arrested, Lester consoles Kitty, his sister in law who believes that Chaz is guilty. Lester begins his new life, Gina Hess alongside her two sons storms into Lester’s office demanding payment from Sam’s cancelled insurance policy.
Malvo is confronted by Nygaard at the bar, Malvo kills his co-worker Burt Canton. Malvo reveals to Lester that he has killed Canton’s brother, who was under witness protection. Nygaard strikes Malvo, he then runs back to his hotel room, he wakes up Linda asking her to immidietly to immediately fly home with him.
Shortly after Linda’s murder, Nygaard walks into Lou’s coffee shop and orders dinner for two. He sneask outside to a payphone and reports gunshots to the police using a different voice. Nygaard gets questioned by the police and then released after Linda’s body has been found.
