Season 1 Recap

Dr. William Masters, a researcher at the Washington University is rejected for his controversial proposal, study of human sexuality. He begins the study nonetheless by hiring an assistant, Virginia Johnson, a nightclub singer-turned-secretary.
Virginia can’t bring herself to tell Bill that she cannot accept his proposal, Bill informs her that the study is cancelled by Scully after he found out that they were monitoring couples having sex. Bill is determined that Ethan told Scully, he decides to fire Virginia for sleeping with him.
Virginia and Bill continue working at the brothel, Bill grows more and more impatient. Betty recruits some men, Bill is nonplussed when he founds out that they are gay. Betty blackmails Bill, Haas takes a case about a woman with quadruplets, Scully reassigned it to Bill.
The study is back in the hospital, for that reason Bill and Virginia recruit new participants on campus. Virginia has a one-night stand with her ex-husband who appears at the hospital. Due to anxiety, Bill starts sleepwalking. His mother comes to visit, she suggest moving to an apartment close to him so she could take care of the baby.
Bill and Virginia decide to include couples in their study, they find out that sex is affected greatly of the participants’ attraction to one another. Austin is asked to participate again, his panther is not Jane, he is disappointed and cannot get an erection.
Bill and Libby vacation in Miami after the miscarriage. Masters gets back to work after he is drawned back by a sexually adventurous couple next door. Virginia tries to convince everyone that vaginal orgasm is more mature than a clitoral one.
Bill is on the serach for a new secretary, Virginia helps him find one. Bill is having a hard time managing his affair, the study, and his home life. Scully is stabbed by three gay men.
Bill and Virginia have to hire a cameraman, they figure that the best way to record the study is to film it. Johnson gives her all to get a degree.
Bill and Virginia decide to film external bodily reactions in the study, for that reason they hire the filmaker Lester to film Jane masturbating. Vivian wants a Christian wedding, Ethan reveals he is Jewish but decides to convert to Christianity.
Flora Banks is a young woman who claims that she got pregnant while participating in the study, she demands to know the identity of the father.
Bill accepts Libby’s offer to be his secretary now that Virginia is no longer in his office. Bill witnesses another doctor’s presentation putting his colleagues to sleep, he decides to take a more drastic approach, even if that means provoking and pushing the audience.
Barton is confronted by Margaret about his sexuality. He intends to pursue electroshock treatment in order to cure himself, Margaret has second thoughts about the risk involved.

Season 2 Recap

After Bill’s declaration, he resumes his professional and private relationship with Virginia. Bill tries to be there for the new baby and Libby but it’s harder than he thought while Virginia breaks the news to Ethan. Bill also has trouble with getting his career back on track. Margaret will bear no more illusions about her life and Scully is determined to succeed in his therapy.
Masters continues his career in a hospital, his boss insists he leaves Virginia behind for a handpicked secretary. Johnson on the other hand has a difficult time in choosing whether to go back and work with Masters or stay with DePaul’s as her condition worsens.
During a secret rendezvous, Virginia uncovers Masters troubled childhood. Johnson is trying to cover herself as she is leaving a hotel with Masters. Bill tries to bring her aboard as his new secretary. Even though Masters objects, Betty tries to conceal her infertility from Gene nevertheless.
Johnson struggles with DePaul while the study costs Masters his obstetrics and gynecology practice. Hendricks bans Masters to use black people as participants in the study, Masters contacts the journalists, he uses the debunking of sexual stereotypes as the lure. DePaul ends Johnson’s chemotherapy treatment. Coral lies about Robert, Libby fires him, meanwhile Gene uncovers the truth about Helen and Betty’s relationship. Masters becomse impotent as he finds out that Johnson has continued to have romantic relationships with other men, he cuts off their sexual work.
Libby witnesses a hate crime, while Johnson attempts to treat a woman on her own. Virginia tries to glean advice from a psychiatrist by impersonating a patient’s case history. Libby gets the third degree while Betty and Masters attempt to remedy Lester’s impotence.
Barbara Sanders has difficulty accepting an unsettling diagnosis, Masters and Johnson to clash over their treatment strategy. After learning about a rival study, Masters calls in a public relations expert. Virginia tries to find a cure after she finds out about Masters’ sexual difficulties. Flo informs Langham that he has to have sex with him in order to keep his job.
A TV crew arrives to document Masters and Johnson’s work treating sexual dysfunction. Masters believes that he is unsuitable as a television presence. George wants to take his kids on a trip with his new wife, that’s the cost Virginia has to pay for prioritizing her work. Langham realizes that he has to have sex with Flo.
The season finale is about Masters and Johnson being ready to cure sexual dysfunction.
