Mary Stuart arrives in France after spending her childhood safely hidden away in a monastery, Simon tells Mary that the English are aware of her engagement to Francis. England’s armies threaten Scotland’s borders, Mary has a big decision in front of her, she has to decide whether to lie and sentence a man to death in order to get out of her engagement to Prince Francis.
An ex-lover of Francis’ arrives, there is an attempt to scare Mary, and Mary and Francis are forced to rely on one another.
Nostradamus tells Mary of his prophecy, Mary and Bash are captured, and a plot to kill Bash goes wrong. Henry returns from Rome unsuccessful, Clarissa kidnaps the younger children of the Queen and the King, and it appears to be time for Mary to choose.
Two months have passed since Mary and Francis got married, meanwhile Kenna fears for her safety. Francis reluctantly agrees to help Bash, Mary uncovers her marriage contract’s secret clause, and Mary’s brother James arrives in France.
Mary and Francis are forced to make difficult choices, Mary enlists a mercenary to help her, and Mary and Catherine form an unlikely alliance.

Francis leaves Court to find Lola and his child, meanwhile a powerful lord demands vengeance after discovering that Mary was responsible for the death of his son. France is in a state of famine, Mary and Lola make a scheme, and tensions between Protestants and Catholics escalate.
Lola and Narcisse become closer, Princess Claude makes a surprise visit home, and Mary and Francis’ relationship hits a wall.
Mary is alone at the castle, later Mary and Conde set off to find who attacked Mary, and Mary and Greer help Prince Conde escape questions.
Bash uncovers the truth about the death of the twins, meanwhile Catherine finds out the cause of her hallucinations. Mary and Francis unearth secrets of the past, Mary’s mother returns to advise Mary, and Francis makes a shocking move.
Condé continues to meet with Elizabeth’s envoy, Bash is being healed by the white witch, and Mary aligns herself with France. Catherine asks Narcisse to do something unforgivable to prove himself. Conde finds news out about Mary, meanwhile Francis thinks Mary is turning against France.
