Da Vinci is set to create an Easter spectacle in Florence after he is commissioned by the Medicis. He is also hired to build war machines and meets a mysterious Turk. Leonardo fails in building the machines for the Medicis, their relationship takes a turn for the worse. Riario, a spy is defeated and returns to Rome.
Riario talks about his defeat with a mysterious prisoner and the Pope. Leonardo in the meantime is trying to find a logical explanation for the demonic possession that is blamed on the Medicis.
Bechhi gets accused of spying for Rome, he gets arrested. Leonardo unveils his latest weapon. Florence’s army has a conflict with Rome’s. Leonardo gets arrested for sodomy at a party in his name.
Leonardo’s estranged father, Piero is ordered to defend his son in the court. The Turk makes an appearance. The clues in the book leads Leonardo to encounter Vlad Dracula, the search for the Medici’s spy intensifies.
Leonardo breaks into Vatican through a sewer after he builds a underwater suit. He meets the Pope and the mysterious prisoner. He identifies the the spy in Rome.
Leonardo discovers the location of the Book of Leaves, he also saves Leonardo saves the Medicis, and Lucrezia admits a startling secret.
Florence falls into chaos, Leonardo and Lorenzo struggle to escape Riario’s forces. The Pazzis are hanged for their after being convicted of conspiracy. Lorenzo gets help from Da Vinci. Pope Sixtus excommunicates Florence, Da Vinci tries to take Duke Alfonso’s ship, and Lucrezia tries to see her imprisoned father.
Leonardo and Riario try to get into the Vault of Heaven, they find out it’s much more difficult than they thought. Lucrezia meets the Turk. Leonardo reunites with Nico and Riario in the New World, with the help of an old flame, Lorenzo tries to save Florence. Lorenzo fights for survival, Leonardo goes into the Door of Heaven and discovers new secrets. The fellowship enters the Vault of Heaven, Clarice’s life is in danger. Lucrezia meets someone on the way to her destination. Leonardo and Riario prepare to die, at the same time Zoroaster and Nico plan their escape.
Leonardo returns to a changed Florence. Italy prepares itself for an attack from the Ottomans.
