The whole community of Arcadia is taken by surprise after they find out that a young boy named Jacob comes back to life after being dead for 32 years.
Maggie agrees to help Bellamy with his investigation. Sherrif Fred is forced to confront secrets from his past. Pastor Tom makes contact with his childhood friend, Jacob. The Richard’s adapt to the second “ressurection”. The difference is that Caleb has no recollection of his death, unlike Jacob.
Henry is failing in his attempt to accept the fact that his dead son has returned. 30 years have passed since his death. Looking more into Jacob’s grave only deepens the mystery. Bellamy and Maggie start investigating whether Jacob’s and Caleb’s return are connected, they believe that the local river might be the answer. As the investigation goes further, Bellamy and Maggie realize that Caleb robbed the bank where his daughter worked, just before his death. Pastor Tom’s life changes forever after some unexpected events occur.
Caleb murders Dane and is now on the run, Fred and Bellamy are searching him. Jacob suffers a seizure and is taken to the hospital to be examined by Maggie, during the examination, she finds out some shocking stuff. Rachael returns to Arcadia, Pastor Tom’s old love, he is forced to make some adjustments in his life.
Elaine is pressured to find out where are the money her dad stole before the FBI comes into town and finds out. Maggie reveals shocking news to Rachael and Caleb warns off Bellamy.
Maggie tries to find out more about the mystery, she turns to a person from the past. Pastor Tom and Bellamy try to pressure the citizens of Arcadia, while Rachael’s secret ends up in the wrong hands.
Rachael disappears, Tom starts searching for her alongside Bellamy and Fred. Maggie and Dr. Ward continue to their medical study of the resurrected objects, their discoveries are astonishing. Their focus diminishes after an epidemic is on the rise in Arcadia.
Arcadia is in chaos, the number of resurrected people keeps growing. Bellamy asks for outside aid, it backfires and Sheriff Fred steps up with his own agenda, the town is in siege, no one expected this.
Bellamy wakes up and realizes that he was missing for a week, his memory starts returning and he has a shocking revelation. Margaret Langston is the newest resurrected person, she is a powerful matriarch of the Langston family and was dead for over three decades.
Bellamy and Fred get reports saying that there is someone living in Caleb’s old hunting shack. They start fearing that it might be him. Bellamy cannot accept that he is returned. Rachael is in advanced stage of her pregnancy, Janine moves back home to save her marriage to Pastor Tom. Margaret is furious when she finds out about how her business got ruined.
Tom creates a new parish, specially for the returned, Bellamy joins them and reveals that he is one of them. Human bones start flowing down with the river, it reveals secrets that Margaret would prefer that they were kept as secrets.
Margaret manages to convince Lucille to host a dinner party for the return of Jacob, unexpected guests ruin the party with some new information about the Langston family. Bellamy still is researching the mysterious bones while Rachael gets some bad new about her unborn child.
Barbara starts working on the improvement of her relationship with Fred and Maggie, that incites Margaret to stop it immediately. Bellamy is in a difficult situation, he is unable to keep some secrets from Maggie. A strange illness is on the rise that affect only the returned, it forces Bellamy to take desperate measures.
Bellamy, now in a bad physical condition turn to an unexpected source, his digging makes him realize stuff about his past that will shock him. Another person appears from thin air, the folks start asking for answers. The newcomer approaches Henry with an interesting offer.
Rachael reject the treatment for the newest virus, fearing for the unborn child. A group is created called anti-Returned, the group rises in numbers, their newest member is deputy Carl. Ray, Elaine’s brother gets the virus even though he is not returned. Addison shows a lot of interest in Margaret.
Pastor Tom’s new church becomes a refuge for the Returned as the situation intensifies. Bellamy and the Sherrif start going after the anti-Returned. Maggie almost catches the virus, before the unexpected happens.
