In Salem, a Puritanical an unwed girl by the name Mary is pregnant with John Alden’s baby. Due to the fact that her lover John died in the war, she is now in a very difficult situation where she is facing the Puritans’ stocks and forehead branding, or giving her and John’s child to the devil. She chose the latter, Mary got married with the towns richest and most influential selectman George Sibley. She kills him and gains his wealth.
