Will Freeman has the perfect life, after writing a hit song, he has no financial worries and a lot of free time. He really loves it, everything is about to change after a single mom moves next door with her 11 year old son. Andy manages to guilt Will into babysitting Marcus so his mother could go on a job interview.
Will and Andy have a night out, things don’t go as planned. Andie convinces Laurie that Will should be their godfather to their son Jonah.
Markus seeks advice from Will on how to make a girl invite him to her upcoming birthday party. That doesn’t succeed so Fiona takes matters into her own hands.
Marcus starts hinting that Will should date Fiona, Dakota on the other hand gives Fiona advice to start dating again, she asks the plumber out.
Fiona is too busy at work, Marcus gets his own key. He loses his mother’s trust after Will is forced to take him to the hospital after a knife incident.
Will throws a poker night for his friends, the evening gets ruined after Fiona makes herself at home. Will takes Marcus on a shopping spree, he also invites Sam to a game night.
Marcus is pleasantly surprised after his father visits.
Will has 2 important commitments, he doesn’t know where to go, Marcus’ birthday or attending Samantha’s gala. Sam is forced to leave her apartment, Will welcomes her.
Will gets heartbroken, Marcus and Fiona comfort their friend.
Will returns to San Francisco in order to sort out his finances. Andy reveals that his wife might be pregnant, he asks Will’s help to find out. Marcus’ friends don’t get along with Will, he instructs Fiona that they are no good.
Will is attempting to find Marcus a new best friend. Fiona and Marcus protest but Will still throws his annual Halloween bash. Fiona meets Sean and finds out more about herself, she also questions Will’s motives for throwing the party.
Marcus meets a 14 year-old trouble maker while assisting the school’s principal. He falls for her and takes responsibility for something he didn’t do.
Will finally finds the woman who has been messing with his money. Marcus is ecstatic after he is chosen as Romeo for the upcoming school play. Will gets threaten by Marcus’ great relationship with his new friend.
Fiona asks Dakota to come along on a date, Will also comes along and tries to woo her. concluded with episode 6.
